This is 1955.  We had a cottage on the south side (Van Blarcom Development) and we are the Noe sisters. (deborah and Joanna)  The boy and girl 2nd from right are visitors.  My sister, the little one with dark hair, was always playing around along the shore.  The boats were wooden.  We made crab castles, caught huge sunfish, speckled bass and northern pike.  The women came up during the week with the kids, and fathers appeared on weekends.  The season was Memorial Day to Labor Day with families gathering to put in rafts and docks.  My father built a small cottage that I now see has been enlarged.  We had no hot water…but loved the lake, the mornings and the sunsets and listening to the girls camp songs from across the bay.  The big feat was to swim the big bay from our cottage to Gidleys.  The roller rink was a big hit..1960…We sold in 63. My parents vacationed there after the war..but it never looks restful.  It looks like the women worked a great deal with nothing. But the fish were so good, and so fresh.

Thank you for this site and the great early photos. I’ll try to find more with cottages and landscape.
